A Final Review

Another year has come and gone. December 2013 I started reading a book called the Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. I found the book to be very inspirational and motivating. In January 2014 I decided to start my own happiness project. It has changed my life in so many ways. I set goals each month. Some I achieved, some I did not, but I tried. I put a lot of time and effort into self-improvement and my overall happiness this past year. Guess what? It has made a huge difference. I started my own blog and have been writing for a year. This is something I never thought I would end up doing, and now I love it. There were ups and downs but overall I really like where this project has taken me in my life. Now I can’t wait to see what this new year will bring for me.

Let There Be Light

There can be no evil without good. No villains without heroes. Therefore to balance the status quo I present to you Disney’s top seven heroes.

***Spoliers***
(Some descriptions may allude to movie endings)

1. Mulan
Yes she breaks the rules and defies her father as well as the law. However she does it all to save her father and bring her family honour. She was told to be someone who she was not and instead of conforming she believed in herself. Mulan defied society’s rules to be who she wanted to be and to do what she felt was right. It didn’t matter what other people thought about her, she became her own person. She ends up bringing honour to her family and saving China. I think more people need to be themselves.

2. Grumpy & the Dwarves
It is a big adjustment to have someone barge into your life and clean everything. Yet the Dwarves come to love Snow White and do what they can to protect her. In the end they cannot bear to part with her as she is in a deathlike sleep from the poisoned apple. Unable to bury her they build her a glass coffin and continue to watch over her. The Prince hears of the sleeping maiden and comes to give her a final kiss goodbye which ends the curse and awakens her from her sleep. The Dwarves glass coffin ensured Snow White’s beauty was preserved and allowed her a happy ending.

3. Prince Phillip

Finds and loses his love all in the same day. Captured by Malificent he is taunted by thoughts of never seeing his love again as she sleeps awaiting loves first kiss. After escaping he must battle Maleficent’s traps as well as herself in dragon form. His courage and bravery endure the final battle where he eventually slays Maleficent rescuing the kingdom and his true love.

4. Pocahontas
Another girl who breaks the rules to be true to herself. Not one to make assumptions of people she gets to know John Smith instead of judging him. She teaches him not to judge others by what he sees, that nature holds life and to see things around him differently. She brings together two very different worlds to establish peace and stop war.

5. Anna
The second sister left in the dark unaware why her sister Elsa suddenly stopped talking to her. She fights against all odds to get her sister back to being her best friend. Anna continues to believe in her sister and that she is inherently good all because she is her sister. Even when Elsa accidentally strikes Anna, Anna continues to believe and unconditionally love her sister. It is Anna’s love in her sister that ends up saving her, she gives her own life for her sister. It is Anna’s true love for her sister that saves them both.

6. Simba

Afraid of what he thinks he has done as a child, Simba runs away from his family, his responsibilities and his life. Finding a new life he runs into an old friend as an adult. This old friend reminds him that running away from problems does not solve them. Simba realizes he needs to take responsibility for his life and choices so he returns home. He fights against his uncle to make things right and reclaim his family, his responsibilities and his life.

7. Phoebus

A soldier that willingly disobeys orders to do the right thing. He runs into a burning house to rescue a family. He comes to realize he is on the wrong side of the fight. He switches sides to fight for what is right. He has been following orders thinking he was fighting for those who were defenceless only to learn his orders were coming from a man who was not righteous or fair. Phoebus fights against who he is and what he has been trained to be in order to save those who cannot fight for themselves.
